Students in grades 6th through 8th took part in one of a series of nationwide MathCounts math competitions on the UAA campus.

MATHCOUNTS is a national program designed to improve math skills among U.S. students. Each February, middle school students from across the state compete in the local MATHCOUNTS Competition. The local chapters are in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and Remote. These Mathletes are some of the most hardworking young mathematicians in our state and they spend months preparing for the MATHCOUNTS Competitions with the support of parents, teachers and other volunteers. The top scoring students advance to the Alaska MATHCOUNTS State competition, which is held in March. These Mathletes compete for a chance to be on the Alaska team at National MATHCOUNTS competition held in May.

We strive to make math engaging and interesting for all students of all abilities and interest levels. Our goal is to help each student to discover their own path to math, whether they need to cultivate their love of math or overcome their fear of it.
